This new rendition of the Tarot de Marsella (Marseille) was handcrafted by Pablo Robledo of Argentina and published by Iskander Servicios Editoriales in June of 2016. It features a number of changes some color and line changes from the previous editions of this deck which Pablo first created in 2011.
His illustrative creation based on several of the classic Marseille specimens, combined with the aged coloring of the background, create the impression of an antique deck made with fresh woodblocks; there are no line breaks or worm-holed missing areas of line or color as often seen on photographic facsimiles of the Tarot of Marseille. Trump & Court cards have traditional French titles, with the spelling variations of the old Latinate style; all of the U's in card titles are shown as V's, and the J's are I's, so the Justice card is seen as IVSTICE. 3 of the Queens are titled Reyne, with the Queen of Coins (Denier) having a title of Reine. Like many card-makers, Robledo has placed his initials upon the Chariot front. In this deck, there are a Papess (Popess) and Pope, with the Papess being the only card in the deck to show purple coloring.
The color palette of features the rich, extended blend seen on the very best examples of the early Conver Tarot. An extended palette of the primary colors of red, golden yellow and dark blue, along with coloring of light blue, light & darker green, pink, and one card (Papess) with a touch of purple. Some shading occurs, mostly on light blue areas, even on pip symbol embellishments.
1 title card (in Spanish) and 1 blank card are included. Card stock has a silky matte finish on both sides, and features a reversible, borderless card back showing a black diagonal tile pattern. Packaged in a heavy paper wrap, similar to one that might have been used during the time when the original Marseille decks were made in France.
